It is essential that workers involved with using chemicals for control of weeds in public areas can do so ensuring the safety of themselves, those in the area, flora and fauna and the environment.
This course aims to develop skills and knowledge required to plan and coordinate weed control activities using appropriate strategies to provide effective, economic control while minimising environmental damage. Participants will learn how to work under broad direction and take responsibility for their own work. Use discretion and judgement in the selection, allocation and use of available resources and for solving problems.
State or territory licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply in some jurisdictions.
The following units will be included in your certificate:
Participants must have the physical capacity to complete a visual inspection of an area with weeds, implement weed control methods and clean up equipment. Participants must also be able to read instructions, have writing skills to be able to complete a weed control management plan and perform calculations for volumes, weights and measures for application rates of chemicals and materials.
Note: To use actual chemicals in this course, individuals are required to hold current chemical handling certification. Individuals who do not hold this certificate cannot use chemicals for this course and must use training replacements. Other licensing conditions may also apply to this unit. Specific determination should be sought through the relevant State or Territory.
Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.
Assessments conducted during face-to-face training session(s) include:
- Scenario Area 1. Assess, plan, safely implement and coordinate weed control activities
- Scenario Area 2. Assess, plan, safely implement and coordinate weed control activities
- Scenario Area 3. Assess, plan, safely implement and coordinate weed control activities
Documentation - Completion of three (3) Weed Control Management Plans for 3 different areas.
Theory assessment - A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.
