Confined spaces are commonly found in tanks, ducts, flues, chimneys, containers or other similar enclosed or partially enclosed structures. They pose dangers because they are usually not designed to be areas where people work.
This course is appropriate for those working in operational roles undertaking work in confined spaces in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries. It is designed to teach participants how to identify confined space hazards, work safely within confined spaces according to an issued permit and operate various confined space safety equipment.
This training is required for anyone who may be required to act as a standby, operate gas detectors or to safely and efficiently enter and work in a confined space. On completion participants will be able to competently understand legislations and standards applicable to enter and work in confined spaces and:
- obtain appropriate entry permit and instructions for performing work in confined space
- interpret and apply safe work method statements
- apply tagging and lock out
- select, wear and care for personal protective equipment
- use atmospheric monitoring devices prior to entering the confined space and during confined space activity
- applying safe materials handling methods
- remove tagging and lock out, and cleaning up the area
